The Montessori School of Calgary was founded in 1983 as two classes
of three-to-six year olds. Since that time the school has grown to a
population of approximately 100 children ranging in age from two and
one half to twelve years, with a staff of nine.
The Montessori School of Calgary is one of two Montessori schools in
Canada “recognised” by the Association Montessori Internationale,
or the AMI. This means that according to a trained AMI school Consultant,
the best Montessori school practices are carried out.
The School is located in the South West quadrant of Calgary close to
the downtown core and older residential neighbourhoods.
Our children follow both the Montessori programme as well as the Alberta
Programme of Studies. Results of the Provincial Achievement tests demonstrate
that they function significantly above the provincial average, with
scores near the top of all schools in Alberta.
The Montessori School of Calgary’s teaching staff is dedicated
to professional development and attend annual conferences, courses and
seminars. They all hold post- secondary degrees in addition to the Montessori
teacher training offered by the Association Montessori Internationale.
Elementary staff members are Alberta Accredited Teachers. Collectively
the teaching staff have over 60 years of classroom experience.
