Message from the Head of School
Patti van Zeyl, Head of School |
Welcome to the Montessori School of Calgary! This webspace provides an overview of MSofC and articulates many of the reasons why so many families choose our tight-knit school community to nurture curiosity, cultivate critical thinking and advance the holistic development of our students. Your Montessori journey begins here, and your child will choose where it leads you!
Founded in 1983 and initially Association Montessori Internationale recognized in 1985, the Montessori School of Calgary has passionately served students for over 40 years. |
Child-centred holistic approach to education.
I am enthusiastic about welcoming children into our preschool classrooms as early as age 3. Honouring the development of the whole child by enabling them to make decisions and problem solve, promotes growth in confidence and independence. Our approach has proven success in fostering a strong sense of self-esteem and I am whole-heartedly excited when our students advance into the elementary program with proficient leadership skills and ready to engage in rigorous academics involving more abstract thinking and learning.
Promoting confident, resilient and responsible character formation.
We prioritize an inquiry-based educational experience of self-directed learning and individualized instruction where students explore exciting challenges and follow their curiosity, passion and talents. This transformative experience encourages creative expression by incorporating music, the arts and a robust outdoor physical education component. The Montessori curriculum helps build empathy, human connections, philanthropy and an understanding that we are all interconnected and interdependent. This teaching approach embodies collaborative engagement, intrinsic satisfaction and empowering children to do things for themselves while at the same time extending empathy for others.
A positive and inclusive environment.
I take pride in our commitment to nourish a positive, safe and caring environment comprised of energetic and dedicated educators who connect with students and forge relationships established with dignity and respect for all. Ongoing student growth is supported through diverse networks enabling all learners to strive to successfully reach their learning potential. The relationship between school and home is key to all aspects of life at MSofC.
Accountability.
I believe in our open communication and partnering with our families, community stakeholders and external agencies, at all times striving for transparency and excellence.
The educational landscape in Alberta boasts an abundance of exceptional alternatives offering high quality learning choices and I thank you for selecting MSofC as your educational preference.
On behalf of our students, teachers, staff, alumni and friends I hope you enjoy and benefit from your visit to Montessori School of Calgary, whether it is here online or in person – now let’s get started!
